Siem Reap
Breakfast Lunch Dinner
Early get up and depart from Siem Reap at about 6:30am with your guide travelling to Preah Vihear, a distance of 201km, approx. 3:30 hour drive. On arrival at the base of the hill for check-point and then 4x4 trucks will be required to scale the steep road going up the hill. The temple sprawls along parallel to the edge of the cliff on Dangrek Mountains elevating about 625 meters, with breathtaking views of lowland.
It dates back to the first half of the 11th century. Nevertheless, the complex history can be traced to the 9th century. The temple-mountain was designed to represent Mt Meru dedicating to the Hindu deity Shiva. It is a unique architectural complex and an outstanding masterpiece of Khmer architecture, in terms of plan and decoration which its reason was inscribed in the World Heritage List in 2008 by UNESCO.
Enjoy a lunch at local restaurant then on the way return to Siem Reap, stop to visit the temple of Koh Ker, though it is somewhat puzzling that this remote site—located 120 km northeast of Siem Reap. The Archaeological Site of Ancient Lingapura was listed as the World Heritage in 2023 by UNESCO.
The region was briefly the capital, lasting 20 years or less than during the early 9th century. The compound has found nearly two hundred temples, but most of them are buried in the ground. You probably spend about 2:00 hours exploring some temples amongst the complex with several temples.
The final stop is Prasat Thom, where you will be impressed by the seven-tiered sandstone pyramid. It was probably the state temple built in 928. From the ground level, the side of the square building measures 62 meters and the height is 36 meters from which there is an excellent view above the forest floor.
Continue to Siem Reap for your relaxing.
